Should Nelson encourage “tiny housing”?

Can Nelson be doing more to get micro or tiny houses built?

There has been some early talk at the city’s Housing Committee about encouraging these units around town as a way of easing the affordability crisis.

City councillor and committee Chair Michael Dailly says the city owns some vacant lots that could handle individual units or small clusters.

Tiny houses can also be built as secondary dwellings although currently they need to be 320 sq ft minimum.

Dailly says perhaps that can be reduced.
