Cities need predictable Fed money:FCM

Canada’s cities – big and small -can not fix their infrastructure without direct financial help from Ottawa.

That’s the message from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) annual convention in Edmonton.

Castlegar mayor Lawrence Chernoff says there needs to be a steady and predictable stream of money to co-fund vital work.

But Chernoff says if municipalities knew their investment would always be matched by a third from the Feds and province so much more could be done to build strong communities.

The FCM has released a platform – calling for core infrastructure funding – they hope every candidate for Ottawa can be judged on come the election.

The platform is called Strengthening Canada’s Hometowns.
