BC Hydro projects lake levels will be very low

Water levels on the Arrow Lake reservoir will be around 12 feet lower than last summer.

The news shouldn’t come as a shock to locals given the poor winter snowpack and dry conditions since but it’s still disappointing knowing boats will have to moored well off shore.

In terms of the Columbia River Treaty all dams – including on the Arrow Lake – must release more water to the US in dry times.

BC Hydro Resource Coordinator Peter McCann says however they have worked with officials south of the border to minimize big fluctuations.

The lake is expected to peak at 1,428 ft soon. That’s 12 feet below last summer and well ahead of schedule.
