Fire mitigation proves helpful

Diligence on the part of the RDCK helped prevent a wildfire from getting out of hand near Balfour.

Fuel mitigation work which had already been done in nearby forests provided a cushion for crews to successfully battle the blaze late last week in the regional park.

Rdck’s Joe Chirico says rural residents can make similar efforts to help keep their properties fire-safe.

Thursday’s fire was extinguished after a 3 hour battle by the Balfour/Harrop volunteer fire fighters .

There will be more fuel mitigation work done in our region in the coming months.
