Stage 4 water restrictions for Nelson

Nelson has entered tougher stage 4 water restrictions.

Even with recent rain, discharge levels which feed the reservoir are low.

A dry summer and a fall forecast of 60% of regular rainfall are all contributors to the stricter rules.

Colin Innes, Director of Public Works outlines some of the stage 4 protocol.

 

More sustained rain is required as recent gains could disappear within 2 weeks.

Innes says residential water consumption was down about a third compared to July but there is still stress on the system.
