Nelson to regulate panhandling

Nelson City Council is doing something about aggressive panhandling.

They’re preparing a bylaw to give police the powers to move people along.

Here’s councilor Robin Cherbo.

Nelson currently has no panhandling by laws.

The regulations are still undergoing some refinement before being passed and cherbo says it may require panhandlers to keep a certain distance from patio restaurants, liquor stores and cash machines.

He says some of the aggressive panhandlers can intimidate the public.
