Update: Shooting incident ends with arrest

An early morning arrest ended a tense overnight situation in Wynndel.

RCMP were called in early yesterday afternoon following reports of a man shooting at a crew that was working in the 5500-block of highway 3-a in Wyndell.

The suspect was in his residence and due to the condition of the property, it was difficult for police to gain entry.

The Emergency Response Team and negotiator were brought in and a containment area was set up around the property.

Negotiations continued through the evening but ended when the suspect, became agitated and cut off communication with authorities.

The suspect, a 52-year Wynndel man, was arrested at 1:55 am.

Staff Sargeant Darryl Hammond says the man is still in custody.

RCMP confirm no one sustained injuries from the shooting.

The incident caused the closure of Highway 3-A in that area between 6:00 last night and 4:00 this morning.

No more details are being released at this time.
