Rural director name change mulled

What’s in a name? When it comes to local rural politics quite a lot apparently.

The term “rural director” for the regional district may be changed to remove confusion , especially outside BC.

RDKB Area B director Linda Worley says they’re looking for a different title – perhaps “rural mayor” – that would make it clear they represent constituents.

Worley adds rural directors are often overlooked by more senior government because there’s no understanding of their crucial elected role.

The issue was discussed at the recent Union of BC Municipalities convention and will be considered for further debate.
