Kokanee recover plan to be released Tuesday

The much-awaited recovery plan for Kokanee stocks in Kootenay Lake will be presented by government biologists this week.

A public meeting goes at the Balfour Hall Thursday evening from 7 pm.

The Kootenay Lake Action Plan has been developed by an expert team and will be released Tuesday.

Last fall only 18,000 spawning Kokanee were counted in the lake and its tributaries. That’s the lowest number since counting started in 1964.

Angling tourism has been hit by the dwindling Kokanee fishery.
