Funding for south slocan greenway project

Slocan Valley residents won’t have to worry about losing pedestrian access under the bridge on Highway 3-A.

This as the RDCK has been approved for $176, 000 in Bike BC grant funding for the South Slocan Greenway Project.

Rural Director Walter Popoff says the project, which sees a tunnel installed under the highway along with a separated bike lane, will connect the community.

Initial plans from the Ministry of Transportation saw the popular underpass being filled with rock-fill, but without a tunnel.

This would have eliminated the well-utilized access for pedestrians.

Popoff hopes to break ground on the project very soon.
