Busy but safe long weekend on local roads

RCMP were busy on our roads over the Canada Day long weekend.

This from the West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety unit.

Traffic services police officers dealt out 53 speeding tickets.

They also handed out three exessive speeding tickets which lead to impoundment and seven day suspensions for the drivers involved.

In one of those instances a moose was almost hit at speeds around 150 km/h!

Eleven drug or alcohol impaired drivers were taken off the roads.

There were also fifteen seatbelt and two cell phone violations.

Thankfully there were no fatalities.

B.C. adds 5k jobs in June, led by gains in part-time work

British Columbia added 5,000 jobs in June but saw a dip in full-time employment, according to the latest jobs report from Statistics Canada.
