Nelson’s 2017 cultural ambassador is author Eileen Delehanty Pearkes.
Her latest book is A River Captured, which explores the history of the Columbia River Treaty.
She says a lot of Americans don’t understand the Treaty’s consequences in Canada.
Pearkes took over the title last night from visual artist Ian Johnston.
She’s perhaps best known for The Geography of Memory, a book about the Sinixt First Nation.
