Hockey Day in Canada: 10 years later

Ten years ago today, CBC TV shined a national spotlight on Nelson, which hosted Hockey Day in Canada.

Then-mayor and current Leafs president John Dooley says it was an extraordinary event.

Dooley credits the local volunteers who helped out.

The event brought the Stanley Cup and many CBC personalities to town.

One lucky family had the cup brought to their living room, and our Glenn Hicks was there.

Reece Hunt is now an elite hockey player having gone to the national under-18 championships last fall.

Brother Dryden is playing professionally in the Florida Panthers system.

Other brother Sawyer is the Nelson Leafs’ captain.
