Balfour water system upgrade headed to referendum

Balfour residents will go to referendum on the upgrade to their water system.

They need to borrow about $600,000 to put towards the $3.4 million dollar project.

The rest would come from a federal-provincial grant.

Local regional director Ramona Faust is confident a referendum would pass after a recent counterpetition process failed to show enough support.

The senior government grant would cover 83 per cent of the total cost of a new reservoir and other important upgrades.

The referendum will likely take place in the summer.
