Remote wildfire in Purcells doubles in size

The wildfire burning to the north east of Kootenay Lake has doubled in size but it is in a remote area and is not a threat.

That remains one of two wildfires of note in that area.

The Winter’s Peak blaze is now at 149 hectares and is burning on the edge of the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy.

Fire Information Officer Karlie Shaughnessy says that fire remains around 70 hectares in size.

There was significant wind and lightning activity to the east of our region late Sunday and patrol planes are looking for any new fire starts.
