Matti Erickson takes gold at x-country championships

Nelson’s Matti Erickson has done something no one else from the Kootenays has ever accomplished.

He won gold at the provincial high school cross country championships.

He finished first in the junior boys 5.2 km race.

But he says it went down to the wire.

The 14-year-old Erickson was mostly competing against 15-year-olds.

He helped L.V. Rogers to a tenth place finish among 33 teams at the meet in Vancouver.

The week before Erickson won the cross country club championships which he considered equally tough.
