School district cancels Jewett grant application

A plan for the Regional District of Central Kootenay to help pay for upgrades to Jewett elementary school in Meadow Creek is off the table.

Director Aimee Watson offered to put up $50,000 in a community works grant.

But Kootenay Lake school district secretary-treasurer Kim Morris says they’ve since discovered it’s not so simple.

So Morris says the application has been cancelled.

Trustees voted last year to keep Jewett open thanks to new provincial funding for rural schools. The school only has about 15 students.
