Popoff lobbies minister on improvement districts

The Slocan Valley’s regional director says he’s continuing to advocate for improvement districts, but not having a lot of luck.

Walter Popoff says he brought them up recently in a meeting with Municipal Affairs Minister Selena Robinson.

Popoff says improvement districts, which mainly look after rural water systems, have been all but abandoned by the provincial government since the 1990s.

Popoff notes the RDCK has a moratorium on taking over any more systems.

Improvement districts can borrow money but don’t have access to government grants.
