The Nelson Police Department is asking for a budget increase of $102,000 in 2018.
Chief Paul Burkart says that’s almost entirely due to wage increases for officers covered in their contract.
Burkart says the increase would be a lot more if not for concessions officers agreed to during bargaining.
The department also found some savings during an operational review.
If approved the overall police budget would come to $3.2 million next year.
Burkart pitched the increase to city council this week.
