Some extra funding has been announced for four local groups that respond to violence against women and children.
Organizations in Nelson, Kaslo, Salmo, and Creston will share in the $112,000 from the provincial government.
Amy Taylor of the Advocacy Centre in Nelson says although they haven’t decided exactly how their $10,000 share will be spent, it will help with front-line service delivery.
She says it’s something organizations like theirs have long been calling for given high demand for their services.
The Advocacy Centre runs a community-based program for victims of relationship, family, and sexual violence.
North Kootenay Lake Community Services in Kaslo, Creston Valley Community Services and Salmo Community Services will also benefit.
