New building to get parking expansion

A Nelson developer has gotten permission from city council to expand parking at the top of Victoria Street.

The new spaces are part of an eight-unit rental building that’s going up on the 900 block.

The extra parking will be added to an existing parking lot at the top of the block.

Councillor Valerie Warmington says this is a good solution.

She says rental expansion is good for the city.

Due to the street’s steep hill and the difficulty of driving down the alley in the winter alternative parking needed to be found for the winter months.

The location of the rental suites makes it difficult to access the other parking area after it has snowed.

The additional spaces will be funded by the developer.
