Coldest Night of the Year in Nelson again this year

The Coldest Night of the Year walkathon is taking place in Nelson for a fourth year.

The fundraising event raises awareness about homelessness around the Kootenays.

Coordinator Lisa Mcgeady says it brings the community together.

This year they’ll be raising money towards the Ready for Home program.

It provides supports to homeless individuals who are ready for housing, newly housed or those at risk of losing their housing.

Mcgeady says they’ve set a fundraising goal of $35,000.

Last year the walk raised over $53,000 which was enough to renovate three rooms at Ward Street Place.

The walk starts at 4 pm on February 24th.
