Winlaw man rescued from avalanche area

A 35-year-old Winlaw man is expected to make a full recovery after spending a chilly night in Slocan Valley backcountry.

Slocan Lake RCMP were contacted Friday night by the man’s girlfriend who said she had lost contact with him.

Nelson Search and Rescue followed snowmobile tracks from his residence which lead to an avalanche path.

It was dark so the search resumed the next morning with air support.

The man was found walking near the area of the avalanche.

He was treated for hypothermia.
