The Regional District of Central Kootenay still hasn’t come to terms with Recycle BC.
They’re trying to reach a deal for the industry stewardship group to assume the cost of recycling in rural areas.
But East Shore director Garry Jackman says they’re not satisfied with what Recycle BC is offering.
Jackman says it would be simpler for Recycle BC to write the RDCK a cheque for the amount it would otherwise spend on a new depot system.
He says that amount could then be returned to taxpayers.
Recycle BC already provides curbside pick-up in Nelson, Kaslo, and Nakusp.
The RDCK has long been in talks about establishing a new depot system, but they’re concerned service levels would dramatically decrease.
