Local MP pans federal budget

The MP for South Okanagan-West Kootenay says this year’s federal budget is a missed opportunity.

The NDP’s Richard Cannings feels there isn’t enough new funding to address Canada’s mental health crisis.

He also feels there wasn’t enough done to address tax havens and CEO pay loopholes.

Cannings says there’s some items in the budget that he supports.

He’s also happy about initiatives such as research for the protection of land and water and supports the decision to make national parks free to use.

The budget outlines funding for reconciliation with indigenous communities.

He says it’s unclear how much funding will be available for local groups to develop rural broadband service delivery.
