Update: Evacuation Alert south of Renata in RDCK

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has expanded an Evacuation Alert south of Renata. It now includes the community of Shields located further south along Lower Arrow Lake.

The RDCK says under an Evacuation Alert, residents, summer residents, campers and visitors should be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice.

There are three fires in the area, totaling approximately 85 hectares.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay issued an Evacuation Alert yesterday for nine addresses south of Renata on Lower Arrow Lake due to three wildfires in the area. East of Dog Creek is approximately 11 hectares in size, South of Renata Creek is 72 hectares and South of Renata Creek 2 is 2 hectares. All three were discovered on Saturday and are said to be lightning caused.

Under an Evacuation Alert, residents and visitors should be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice. It is recommended to prepare an emergency kit and ensure preparedness in the event that the situation worsens, and an Evacuation Order is enforced.
