The Kootenay Career Development Society is once again inviting those interested to take a free, five-week training program.  It will help participants learn more about their career goals and acquire certifications to help them land jobs in local industries.

Theresa Negreiff is the Program Coordinator for the RAFT program, which stands for Retail, Accommodations, Food Service and Tourism.  She explains what participants can learn. “Folks get walked through a whole series of capacity building exercises. We do learning-based computer skills, resume development, customer service. There’s five certificates that they complete including first aid, Super Host, Serving it Right; we go out and visit employers in the area.”

Negreiff says the feedback from past participants has been very positive. “Things like, it’s life changing, it improved my self worth, it makes me feel more ready to do what I want in my career, so the feedback from participates has been fantastic. It’s a program I’m really proud to be a part of.”

It starts in Nelson on September 17 but anyone interested is invited to an information session on Thursday, September 6 at 2:00pm at the KCDS office at #514 Vernon Street. Eligible candidates must provide a current resume and a cover letter that demonstrates their suitability for the program.
