Nelson resident suggests free parking for Veterans with special plates

A Nelson resident is asking that Veterans with Veteran plates be allowed to park free of charge in the city. Ieuan Gilmore says he saw this when visiting Kamloops recently and wants to see the gesture implemented here.

“Some people think Veterans are not very special, some people think they are a bit special. And I think it’s a nice thing to do to honour the Veterans and remember their contributions that they have made to society.”

He doesn’t think there would be a big impact and says there’s not many veterans left. Council will look at the request and see if it fits into the parking strategy, a response Gilmore is satisfied with.

“I didn’t expect to get a yes or a no. I think they did they right thing. They’re going to study it and investigate it and see if it’s a valid suggestion and go from there.”
