Nelson Public Library to start planning 2020 centennial celebrations

A big mile stone is coming up for the Nelson Public Library. On January 19, 2020 it will be turning 100. Chief Librarian Tracy Therrien says the board and staff are just starting to look at ideas for the centennial celebrations.

“We want to really celebrate and honour the past but really give an opportunity for residents to think about what they’d like to see for the next 100 years from their library.”

She adds there’s a history of the library up to 1986 so they want to commission someone to continue that.

There will definitely be something happening on the actual anniversary, says Therrien, but more will be happening through the year as well.
