Local teenager organizes fundraiser for Syria

She saw a video of the White Helmets pull a baby trapped under a pile of rubble in the war-torn country of Syria.
Now, Phaedra McNeil, 13, wants to do her part to make a change for the people in Syria and those who have fled.
On Friday, June 7th, her self-organized fundraiser kicks off in the gym at the Central School.
There will be live music, raffle tickets, and an auction.

“I walked around to all the stores in Nelson and asked for donations,” says Phaedra McNeil.

The money will go to organizations like the White Helmets and other support groups helping refugees.

Despite her young age, Phaedra is not a rookie when it comes to fundraising.
She has already sold homemade cards around the community, raising over $1000 for charities.
