Nelson police searching for stolen rifles

The Nelson Police Department is investigating a break, enter and theft of numerous items including multiple rifles.

These rifles are not considered ‘firearms’ under the criminal code, but the police are concerned that they appear to be real and operating firearms.

Police believe the break-in to the Eagles Hall on Baker Street occurred sometime between January 1st and 2nd, 2025, likely over that night.

Several ceremonial rifles that have been rendered inoperable and several precision air rifles used for marksmanship training were stolen. These rifles were secured in locked cabinets at the time of the break and enter.

Police are requesting the public’s assistance to keep an eye open for any suspicious activity or possession of the firearms whose photographs have been provided below.

“This is a very concerning and unfortunate incident.  Not only for the local Air Cadet squadron who use these rifles for ceremonies and marksmanship training, but for the potential of individuals to now use these rifles in further criminal activity,” said Chief Constable Donovan Fisher.

“These rifles pose a significant risk, especially to the person(s) in possession of them, as you can see from the pictures, they could easily be mistaken for real firearms and could have tragic consequences for anyone attempting to use them for illegitimate purposes.”

Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Nelson Police Department at (250) 354-3919, or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or online at bccrimestoppers.com.
