Prestige Lakeside Resort suite damaged by fire

Nelson’s Prestige Lakeside Resort has sustained over $50,000 worth of damage following a fire in a 3rd floor suite on Sunday evening.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services responded to the room fire at 6:36pm, where they found the windows of one of the rooms covered black with smoke while flames could be seen inside.

After ensuring all occupants had exited the room, fire crews set their attention to containing the blaze.

Upon entry, the team encountered heavy smoke and a growing fire in the area of the kitchen.

Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the fire appears to have originated on the stove, extending to the cabinets above.

The suite suffered extensive heat and smoke damage throughout.

In all, 18 Firefighters and 1 Chief Officer responded to the incident with two fire engines, one ladder truck, one Utility vehicle and a Command truck.

No injuries were reported.

“Nelson Fire & Rescue Services would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to check their potential escape routes from wherever they may be staying, whether at home or on vacation.” said Chief Jeff Hebert.
