Nelson Police arrest man machete on Lakeside Drive

Nelson Police seized a quantity of drugs and cash after arresting a man allegedly armed with a machete earlier this month.

Police received reports of a man being chased in the 1100 block of Lakeside Drive on July 12.

Officers arrived on scene and located the man reportedly being chased, who was also in possession of bear spray and a machete.

Police successfully de-escalated the situation, at which point the man put down the weapons and cooperated with officers on scene.

It was determined that the individual was experiencing a mental health episode and required medical care.

During the interaction, officers also observed that he was carrying a small satchel, which was open and in plain view. Inside, officers believed they saw cocaine.

As a result, the man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

A search of the satchel revealed suspected cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and crack cocaine, with a combined weight of 258 grams, as well as approximately $10,000 in cash.

The man was released to receive medical treatment, and the investigation remains ongoing.
