NPD happy to seek ideas to reduce pressures on officers

The Nelson Police Department is eager to find any ways of easing the stresses on their limited officer numbers.

This from Chief Wayne Holland following a private meeting between the Police Board and city council Tuesday amid ongoing tension over council’s rejection of a request for two new officers.

Mayor Deb Kozak called the meeting very positive and a first step in collaborating with every agency to help address police stressors like the amount of mental health call-outs.

The Nelson Police Board has called on the Provincial Police Services Division to do a review to see if Nelson’s officer numbers are enough.
