FI releases elementary schools list

Trail’s St. Michael’s elementary is the highest ranking school in our region on the Fraser Institute’s annual list.

The Roman Catholic school was rated 121st on the report that looks at 978 public and private elementary schools across the province.

Nelson’s St. Joseph and Hume schools were ranked 191 and 212 respectively.

J.V Humphries in Kaslo landed much furthest down the list at 955.

Both elementary schools in Castlegar also received low scored from the FI. Twin Rivers was listed at 935 and Kinnaird at 833.

The Fraser Institute’s report is based on 10 academic indicators but has been criticized for its focus on standardized testing.

The BC Teacher’s Federation has labelled the list an attack on Canada’s public schools.
