Baker St re-opens after big dig

Despite the need for some serious excavation work under Nelson’s Baker St the main drag has now re-opened.

Crews managed to dig up the key intersection of Baker at Hall St and get important infrastructure work done in four days. Baker was re-paved by late Sunday.

The contractor said much of the decaying pipes and man holes they found were so old they didn’t even appear on the city’s utility maps.

The work is part of Nelson’s ambitious Stores to Shores project.
