GFSS tops in our region in school rankings

Grand Forks Secondary School has come out tops in our region in the latest Fraser Institute school rankings.

GFSS was ranked at 96th out of the 289 schools across the province.

The ranking is based on seven academic indicators using student results from annual province wide exams, grade-to-grade transition rates, and graduation rates.

Principal Scott Stewart says he’s proud of the performance of his students and staff given the economic and demographic challenges in town.

Nelson’s LV Rogers is ranked at 118, Trail’s JL Crowe 136 and Castlegar’s Stanley Humphries at 165.

Boundary Central is at 225 and Mount Sentinel is at 238.

Many teachers and administrators dismiss the controversial report as not being a fair reflection of achievement.
