NPD:No choice but to use energy weapon

The Nelson Police Department says the use of a taser on a mentally disturbed person was necessary given the circumstances.

The woman was holding a large kitchen knife in her apartment and had earlier threatened to stab people.

Officers tried to talk things through but Sgt Dino Falcone says she went for one of them.

Falcone says officers are not mental health professionals but they are trained in de-escalation although in this instance it didn’t work out.
