The mayor of Nelson thinks the federal grant proposal by the Civic Theatre Society can be a winner.
Deb Kozak is speaking to their application for half a million dollars from the Canada 150 scheme for the old city-owned site.
It would go towards building a first floor concourse to link all the spaces as a multi-use conference hub.
The city of Nelson would also need to come up with a matching half million dollars but Kozak says they can try to access grants for that too.
The society will also fund-raise more than a million on their own for a second movie screen.
