UPDATE:Suicidal man arrested after Ward St stand-off

The multi agency response to a six hour stand-off on Nelson’s Ward street late Tuesday was related to a suicidal man.

Nelson police say he had barricaded himself in his estranged girlfriend’s apartment.She had managed to escape and called police.

Sergeant Dino Falcone says the armed man repeatedly threatened to take his own life….

He eventually surrendered the weapon and partially cleared the doorway.

As police entered he attempted to jump from the third-floor window but officers grabbed him.

He was arrested under the Mental Health Act.
