Those behind a petition against the proposed new pedestrian/pipe bridge in Trail say nearly everyone they’ve approached has a concern about the $9.5 million project.
Resident – and former City Councillor – Ron Joseph says the old bridge wasn’t investigated enough to see if it could be repaired properly.
He also argues the structure would take $5 million to take down – on top of the money being spent on the new crossing.
The City is saying petitioners – who have no engineering credentials – are spreading misinformation in the community and restoring the old bridge is not a cost-effective solution.
The deadline to sign the petition is Friday.
If ten percent of voters sign it that would force a referendum in November.
