Nelson NHL’er remembers Gordie Howe

A retired NHL player who lives in Nelson is remembering one of hockey’s great pioneers.

Gordie Howe – who also went by the moniker of Mr Hockey – died Friday at the age of 88.

Howe was raised in Saskatchewan during the Great Depression and began his career in professional hockey with the Detroit Red Wings in 1946.

Here’s Nelson’s Mike Laughton – who played against Howe as a member of the Oakland seals in the 1960’s.

Howe played his final NHL game in 1980 with the Hartford Whalers.
