Nelson Civic Theatre design concepts

The restoration of Nelson’s Civic Theatre into a three-plex movie house could feature other spaces to increase its community appeal.

A top floor office and conference room is being pondered as well as an elevator to make the site fully accessible.

And Jennifer Marshall with Urban Arts Architecture says the lobby needs major improvement because the depression-era building doesn’t really have one.


Marshall’s company will design the lay-out with local architect Thomas Loh with a focus on community-building and collaboration.

The society has raised $600,000 and needs over $2-million more to make the project a reality.

Initial concept design was presented to city council Tuesday night.
