No injuries in Grohman crash

Nelson Fire Rescue says no hazardous fuels leaked from a vehicle that went over a bank and down to Grohman Pond after rolling multiple times on Thursday afternoon.

The lone occupant of the vehicle made his way back up to the road unhurt.

“Once it was determined that there were no injuries the next goal was to ensure that no hazardous fluids were leaking from the vehicle that could impact the environmentally sensitive pond,” Assistant Fire Chief Michael Daloise wrote in a news release. “This proved to be a difficult task due to the amount of snow and the location of the vehicle.”

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure arrived, and in consultation with Nelson Fire Rescue and RCMP, determined an emergency no longer existed, and took control of the vehicle removal.

RCMP are investigating the cause of the accident and the Ministry of Environment will do a further assessment.

Daloise said their department has responded to crashes at that location many times during icy conditions.
