Fire scorches vacant North Shore home

One firefighter was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation following a fire that damaged a home at 4108 Heroux Beach Road on Kootenay Lake’s north shore Monday morning.

Fire chief Fred Schneider says when they arrived, the fire was burning around the gas heater stove in the living room.

The fire spread into into a crawl space. Nobody was inside at the time.

Most of the furniture had been removed.

Schneider says they figure the fire was burning for several hours before it was discovered.

The North Shore Fire Department responded with five pieces of equipment and seven firefighters. The Balfour-Harrop Fire Department also provided two more pieces of equipment and four firefighters.

The cause is under investigation but the fire is not considered suspicious.
