Teachers to ratify deal Thursday

BC’s 41,000 teachers will vote tomorrow to ratify the tentative 6-year contract with government.

BCTF President Jim Iker wouldn’t give details Wednesday but says there are many gains and the executive is recommending members accept the deal.


Clause E-80 had been an attempt by government to nullify any future court decision on class size and composition.

Teachers are reportedly set to get a 7.25% wage increase over the 6 years plus over a $100-million in a special grievance fund.

Schools could re-open by Monday.
