RD director has concerns about homeless camp study

A local rural director is committing some funding to a feasibility study on a homeless camp in the Nelson area but is opposed to the idea of tents.


Ron Mickel on the North Shore says we already know we urgently need accommodation for the homeless and the province should be funding that.

He says if the study identifies a potential location that’s a good thing but local government should not be promoting people living in tents through winter.

But advocates for the camp say that’s how some homeless locals are already living.
