UPDATED:Regional lobbying at UBCM for home insurance changes

Private insurance companies should not be scared of competition.

This from a local rural director who’s part of a push from regional districts across the Columbia Basin to get the province involved in home insurance.

Area I Director Andy Davidoff says they want to explore ICBC or perhaps the Columbia Basin Trust coming on board …or even the umbrella body that already insures local government assets.


Rural homeowners face up to a quadrupling of premiums because the Fire Underwriters Survey now figures those homes are too much of a response-time away from a fire hall.

The ICBC home insurance option was in front of the UBCM convention delegates today and was endorsed.
