"Black Gold" offered for free in Castlegar

One man’s yard waste is another man’s treasure.

The City of Castlegar will be giving away free so-called “black gold’ after they’ve been collecting compost behind the Community Complex for the past few years.

Residents have been urged to drop off organic matter at the complex in the past and councillor Dan Rye says this is a thank you gesture for supporting the initiative.

He says all the public has to do is show up Saturday October 18th.

The City has been using the compost as top soil for boulevards and plantings.

They recently sent samples to an environmental consultant who said it is class one compost that could be sold to private parties.
