Nelson gets new Fire Chief

As of November 17th, the City of Nelson will have a new Fire Chief.

Calgarian Len MacCharles will be at the helm of the Queen City’s historic fire hall as Simon Grypma is retiring after 36 years with the department.

MacCharles oversaw 1,300 fire fighters while deputy chief of the Calgary Department and was tapped by the Province of Alberta to follow up on the massive Slave Lake fire disaster in 2011.

He has nearly 35 years of experience in the profession and holds a Masters Certificate in Municipal leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Society.
